June 1, 2009 – Kristin Stanley wins 2009 NSA season opener
The Gray, Maine racer qualified her PCS Performance Pro Stock into the number two
spot at the 2009 NSA season opener and stayed consistent during the day to win her
second National Speed Association event.
Stanley was up against the number four qualifier,
Scott Marsh of Highland, NY in the final. Although
Marsh cut a better light and ran a great elapsed
time, his Scooterboy Racing / Big-E Racing
SkiDoo was outrun this round by the quicker
Stanley.
The semi-finals pitted Stanley against NSA
newcomer Brittney Marston of Fairfield, Maine.
Marston’s Pro Stock debut was remarkable. She ran low 8-second elapsed times
throughout eliminations – 8.503 in the first round, 8.380 in the second round and 8.412 in
the semi-final. And in one of the tightest races of the day, Marsh made a 8.534-second,
148.12-mph run against Paul Austin (Jackson, Michigan) with a 8.516-second, 152.97-mph
pass. Marsh cut a better light earning him the round win.
Seventeen race teams were in Epping, New Hampshire for the NSA season opener on
Saturday May 30th for a great day of racing.
The next NSA points event is scheduled for June 13 at New England Dragway in Epping,
New Hampshire. This will also be the first of three points events for the Wahl Challenge
series.

June 15, 2009 - Meyer Racing get first NSA win
The second NSA points race of the season is complete with the win going to Dan Meyer
(Meyer Racing) of Gray, Maine. Meyer’s CKIII Pro Stock was running consistently in the
8.4’s on Saturday giving him one of the sleds to beat all day. He opened the race with an
8.495, the second quickest time of round one, to defeat Ricky Romano. Then followed it
up in the semi’s with a career-best 8.402 to get around Jeff Cullen (Team Abbott) who
suffered a broken belt.
“This win wouldn’t be possible without my crew”, said Meyer. “Jesse (Loura), Tom (Patten)
& Steve (Loura) have put in countless hours helping me get the sled ready for the season.
We work well together and have a great
system on race day.”
On the other side of the ladder, Jay Pearl
put together a solid showing on the way
to his semi-final finish. Pearl began with
an 8.436 pass to defeat John Renaud (JR
Racing), then ran another stout 8.431
pass in a bye round, but would loose in
the semi-final with a red light to the
eventual runner up Scott Marsh
(Scooterboy / Big-E Racing).
Marsh and his Scooterboy / Big-E Racing Team went rounds for the second time this
season with a first round win over Rich Daly (Dynoport). The second round pitted Marsh
against 2008 NSA Points Champion Ken Lund
(Wise Man Racing) of Brunswick, Maine. Lund
and Marsh have had some excellent
side-by-side races over the years and this
match up was no different. Marsh was the
victor this round with his better reaction time
and quicker ET, launching him much closer to
first place in the NSA Championship points.
Meyer leaves Epping, NH in the points lead for
the Wahl Asphalt Challenge series. This highly acclaimed mini-series puts the best
asphalt racers in the country against each other with the limited edition Wahl Trophy and
$1500 up for grabs.
The next NSA Pro Stock Asphalt Snowmobile Championship Series points race is
scheduled for July 11th at New England Dragway in Epping, NH.

July 15, 2009 - Third time’s a charm for Pearl
Jay Pearl (Newport, Maine) qualified number one on his Bangor Motor Sports Arctic Cat
Pro Stock for the third time this season and this time he took home the win. Pearl had
the sled to beat on Saturday, July 11 at the third race of the NSA Championship points
series at New England Dragway and met several tough competitors before defeating
Dan Meyer (Gray, Maine) in the final.
After making a solo pass with a bye in
the first round, Pearl defeated Jeff
Cullen (Gray, Maine) in the second
round as he left early with a red light.
The third round match up against
Kristin Stanley (Gray, Maine) was the
quickest side-by-side pass in Pro
Stock Asphalt Sled history with
matching 8.39-second ET’s. Pearl
was on his game with a reaction time
advantage over Stanley to take the
round win. This semi-final win would
be bitter sweet for Pearl though, as he
relinquished his new National record
MPH of 156.52 set earlier in the day to
Stanley who ran 156.88 MPH in the
round.
Pearl and Meyer squared off in the final in what would be another very close race. Meyer
left with a .092 hole shot, but Pearl’s tune up from long time crew chief Kurt Thomas gave
him the quicker ET to take the win.
The Meyer Racing Team also had their hands full on race day. The first round pitted
Meyer against newcomer Brian Hamel (South Hadley, MA) on Dan Zeiring’s new CKIII Pro
Stock. The team ran very well in their first NSA outing, but they we’re outrun in this match
up by the Veteran. The second round pitted Meyer against Brittney Marston (Fairfield,
Maine) on her very competitive Team Frustration Ski Doo. Marston cut a better light than
Meyer, but Meyer’s tune up allowed him to run her down on the top end. And in keeping
with a day of close NSA Pro Stock racing, Meyer faced the number two qualifier of Paul
Austin (Jackson, Michigan) in the semi finals for what would prove to be another close
margin of victory.

Several race teams posted there quickest
ever competition pass during eliminations
on Saturday. Ryan Mason (Hancock,
Maine) ran a personal best 8.543 ET at
153.67 MPH on his Eastside Builders Ski
Doo Pro Stock, as did Dan Meyer with an
8.391 ET at 154.51 MPH. Scott Marsh
(Highland, NY) also ran a career best
154.12 MPH on race day as did Jay Pearl
with his 8.363 ET and 156.52 MPH runs.
The NSA Pro Stock Asphalt Sled
Championship points are heating up as Jay
Pearl (Bangor Motor Sports) takes over the
number two spot with his win on Saturday.

Kristin Stanley (PCS Performance) maintains the Championship points lead by a slim
margin over Pearl and Dan Meyer (Meyer Racing) also moved up the ladder to the third
spot, only seven points behind first.
The NSA series is gaining momentum, as the competition gets tougher. The overall margin
of victory of each pairing at the last race proved to be some of the closest in history. And in
true Pro Stock racing form, the riders’ reaction times are making a difference in the
outcome. Fans can expect to see very close competition between the NSA riders and
teams.
The next NSA Pro Stock 1000 Asphalt Sled points event is scheduled for August 8, 2009 at
New England Dragway in Epping, NH. This will be the fourth race in the five event
Championship points series.

Pearl and Meyer go back-to-back
For the first time in the NSA’s 5-year history, Jay Pearl (Bangor Motorsports) pulls off back-
to-back wins in the National Speed Association Pro Stock 1000 Asphalt Snowmobile
Championship Points Series. Fresh off his win on July 11th, Pearl qualified number one on
Saturday August 8th during the
Jet Cars Under the Stars show at
New England Dragway in Epping,
New Hampshire. Pearl ran
consistently in the 8.30’s during
the first three rounds of
eliminations, topping off a very
8.297 ET in the final.
Pearl met up with Dan Meyer
(Meyer Racing) in the final for the
second time in a row this season.
Meyer, who was coming off his
runner up finish at the last points
race in July, was also going
rounds on Saturday with his Pro
Stock 1000. Meyer defeated Dale
Swartwout (Swartwout Racing) in
a very close first round, then went on to defeat Kiersten Duncanson (Petschke Racing) in
the second round and 2008 Points Champion Ken Lund (Wise Man Racing) in the semi’s.

followed closely by NSA newcomer Brian Hamel
(A2Z Racing) who ran an 8.390 ET in qualifying
on Dan Zering’s CKIII Pro Stock 1000. Hamel and
Zering followed up their first ever 8.30-pass with
a career best 8.368 ET during eliminations.

September 1, 2009 - MSD Ignition joins NSA Sponsor line up
The National Speed Association (NSA) Pro Stock Asphalt Snowmobile series is pleased to
announce its newest series sponsor – Autotronic Controls Corporation (also known as
MSD Ignition). The Powersports Group at MSD will be awarding a MSD 7531
Programmable Digital-7 Plus ignition to the 2009 NSA Pro Stock Asphalt Sled Champion.
The MSD digital ignition allows teams to program a specific timing curve for the motor that
can easily be customized based on the situation. With the MSD Programmable Digital-7
Plus ignition, tuners can also view all ignition events in a new launch history window. All of
these beneficial features help to lengthen the overall life of the motor as well.
MSD Ignition is a powerful supporter in all forms of racing and we are pleased to welcome
them into the asphalt snowmobile drag racing ranks for the first time.
The MSD 7531 Programmable ignition
has become very popular among the
NSA Pro Stock asphalt sleds with its
ease of use and controllability. The
MSD digital ignition gives tuners a very
powerful tool with launch control and
also provides riders with 2-step
capability.
September 7, 2009 – Pearl leads points going in season finale
With four events completed in the 2009 NSA Championship Points Series, the Bangor Motor
Sports team of Jay Pearl and Kurt Thomas lead the contingent of Pro Stock Asphalt Sleds
that compete for points in the series.
Pearl has been consistent all season on his Arctic Cat Pro Stock, with four number one
qualifying spots, two event wins, first ever back-to-back season wins and a very near-miss
at a new National MPH record. The team currently leads the points going into the fifth and
final event of the season, the 12th Annual Amalie Oil North American Nationals at New
England Dragway September 11-13.
Following closely behind Pearl is the Meyer
Racing Team of Dan Meyer, Tom Patten,
Jesse Loura and Steve Loura, with one
event win and back-to-back runner up
finish at the previous two events. Third in
the points chase is Kristin Stanley on the
PCS Performance Pro Stock with one win
this season. Stanley is followed closely by
Scott Marsh on the Scooterboy / Big-E Racing Pro Stock who also posted two runner up
finishes this season. Rounding out the top five is 2008 NSA Points Champion and Wahl
Cup winner Ken Lund on his Wise Man Racing Pro Stock entry.
Along with the 2009 NSA Championship point finale will be the culmination of the Wahl
Asphalt Challenge series. This highly competitive mini-series is in its second season and
the limited edition traveling trophy is a hot topic throughout the asphalt racing community.
The Wahl Asphalt Challenge is a separate points series within the NSA Championship
Points program and is comprised of three NSA event dates in 2009 - June 13, August 8
and September 13. Pearl and Meyer are tied for first place going into the final, with Lund
and Marsh rounding out the top four money spots.
The weekend-long event will include nitro burning Top Fuel Cars, wild 6-second Pro Mods,
Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars, wheelstanders and the legendary Bob Motz in his
jet-powered truck. There will also be a full slate of sportsman racing including Top
Dragster and Top Sportsman cars.
The first of two qualifying sessions for the NSA Pro Stock sleds take place on Friday
September 11 at 3:00 and 7:00. The second two qualifying sessions will take place on
Saturday September 12 at 3:00 and 7:00, with eliminations starting on Sunday at 11:00am.

September 16, 2009 - Marsh wins IHRA National event
Qualifying was cut short due to rain during the 2009 IHRA North American Nationals at New
England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire, but Sunday eliminations brought no shortage
of competitive racing for the NSA Pro Stock sleds.
Jay Pearl (Bangor Motor Sports) qualified number one for the fifth time in as many races
on Sunday, setting yet another first in the NSA Pro Stock Sled series. Pearl had the sled
to beat at the final race of the NSA Championship points series and met several tough
competitors throughout the day.

Racing) took the hole shot win
on Sunday with an 8.466 ET

in the final. Marsh was going
rounds all day with his new A2Z
Race Engines 1000cc motor and
also ran a personal best 8.432
ET at 153.28mph in the
semi-finals.
Congratulations also go out to
Kevin Zucco (Zucco Racing) who

Wahl Racing Asphalt Challenge 2009
2009 was the second year of the Wahl Racing
Asphalt Challenge series. This 3-race points
series was masterminded by Dave Wahl, owner
of Wahl Bros Racing Products. Wahl, who has
been racing snowmobiles for decades, has built
one of the most successful snowmobile
performance parts companies in the country.
The Wahl Challenge points battle came down to
the final race with Jay Pearl (Bangor
Motorsports) and Dan Meyer (Meyer Racing)
tied for first going into the third and final points race in the series. Meyer unfortunately
had a carburetor issue in the first round of the last race which gave Pearl the 2009 Wahl
Challenge Title. Pearl and Meyer both had tremendous success in the NSA Pro Stock
Asphalt series this season.
Wahl Asphalt Challenge finalists: 1st - Jay Pearl, Newport, ME (Bangor Motorsports) $800 2nd - Dan Meyer, Gray, ME (Meyer Racing) $400 3rd - Scott Marsh, Highland, NY (Big-E / Scooterboy Racing) $150 4th - Ken Lund, Brunswick, ME (Wise Man Racing) $150

the 2008 Champion in the Wahl Racing series. This incredible “traveling” trophy will now
have Jay Pearl’s name added to it and will travel from year to year with the winner from
each season’s Wahl Challenge.
A special thank you goes out to Dave Wahl and Wahl Bros Racing on their continued
support of the NSA Asphalt series.

five NSA events in 2009 to claim his first NSA Points Championship. Pearl, with the help of
During the off season, Pearl decided to make some changes to his program. He had Phil
Stanley of PCS Performance build a new lightweight chromoly tube front end and new
custom pipes for his MRE 1000cc motor. The team added a new, lightweight hood and
came out swinging with a beautiful new stars and stripes paint job.
Pearl began racing in the NSA series in 2005 when it began. “We wanted to race against
the best and we found that with the NSA series”, said Pearl. “At any given event there are
a large number of teams that can contest for a win which forces us to remain focused.”
Pearl enjoys the family atmosphere also. “It is unique in the racing world to find a group
who gathers together with their competitors and families the way we do in the NSA.”
Congratulations to the entire Bangor Motorsports team on their Championship season.
