Increased safety - concrete walls
The NSA Pro Stock sled series will no longer be competing at tracks that do not have concrete
walls.  Unfortunately this leaves two great tracks out of our 2008 schedule - Pittsburgh
Raceway Park in New Alexandria, PA and New York Int’l Raceway Park in Leicester, NY.  PRP
has made several major improvements to its facility over the years and has their wall upgrade
scheduled for the fall this year.  Plans have already been made for a return visit to PRP in
2009 for the NSA sleds.  NYIRP has recently changed ownership and is planning several
major facility improvements in the near future, including plans to upgrade their walls as soon
as possible.  The NSA Pro Stock asphalt snowmobile series hopes to schedule another event
at NYIRP in 2009.

3rd Annual Camoplast Asphalt Challenge postponed due to rain

Mother Nature got the best of us in Epping, NH this weekend as the first NSA points race
of the season ended in rain.  In spite
of the rain, this was an excellent
beginning to the season as 16 Pro
Stock asphalt sled competitors were
ready to do battle.  Jay Pearl took in
the #1 spot in qualifying and brought
home a new 136” Camoplast Asphalt
track with his 8.506 elapsed time.
We were able to get two rounds of eliminations under wraps before the rain came.  The
four semi-finalists, Jay Pearl of Newport, ME, Scott Marsh of Highland, NY, Ryan Mason of
Hancock, ME and Ken Lund of Brunswick, ME agreed to run the final two rounds on
Sunday morning but heavy rains cancelled Sunday’s event as well.  The continuation of
this race will be held during qualifying at the next NSA points event.

IHRA cancels Nitro Jam Canadian Nationals

IHRA has cancelled the National event at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario
due to inadequate track conditions.  Required facility improvements were not made to
IHRA's satisfaction so the event was removed from the 2008 Nitro Jam schedule.  Read the
complete article

Unfortunately this temporarily leaves the NSA Pro Stock sled series without a points finale
this season.  We are working on replacing this event and will provide details as soon as the
arrangements are finalized.

That was not the end of the day’s rain, however as another heavy rain storm came through
after round one of eliminations.  The MGR staff dried the track again and the event was run
through to completion.  Jeremy Hannen, the event winner, met Paul Austin (Jackson, MI) in
the final round of eliminations but Austin went red giving the win to Hannen.

Unfortunately our Championship points are still up in the air as the rain also prevented the
completion of the Camoplast Asphalt Challenge event from June 14th.  Kenny Lund and
Scott Marsh paired up during the first round of qualifying to finish where they left off in
Epping, but Marsh rolled through the lights and went red to give Lund the round win.  Jay
Pearl got a bye run into the final, as Ryan Mason
could not make the trip to Maple Grove.  The final
round of the 2008 Camoplast Asphalt Challenge
will take place at the next NSA points event in
Epping, NH on July 12th.
McBurney Racing wins at Maple Grove
Fourteen Pro Stock sled teams made the trip to Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA on
Saturday June 28th for the second points race of the season in the 2008 NSA Championship
points series.  This event would
not go without a hitch as a
torrential rainstorm came through
after round one of qualifying.  The
MGR staff quickly got the track
dried but qualifying had to be cut
short and after only one session,
Jeremy Hannen of Durand, MI took
the number one spot on the
McBurney Racing Skidoo with his
8.49-second 150.03mph pass.
Travis Merrill of Durham, ME took
the number two spot on the
Chuckaroo Motorsports Skidoo
with his 8.62-second run at
148.01mph.
A special thank you goes out to the staff at MGR for their generous hospitality and
tremendous effort during a rain-soaked weekend of racing.

rained out 2008 Camoplast Asphalt Challenge.  Pearl had the advantage over Lund on the
light and ran a quicker elapsed time, giving him the event win.

Armstrong had a better reaction time in the final, but the Abbott Polaris IQ was on a mission
and Cullen took the event win.

Jeff Cullen (Team Abbott Racing) was back
in the winner’s circle this season at the
Millennium Technologies sponsored NSA
Pro Stock Asphalt event at New England
Dragway on Saturday July 12, 2008.  The
Abbott Racing Polaris IQ ran an incredible

throughout the day, but his sled was

Congratulations also go out to Tavis Merrill (Chuckaroo

the 8.5-second range.  Kevin Zucco (Agawam, MA) ran a
career best 8.564 ET on his Zucco Racing Yamaha during
the second round of eliminations on Saturday.  Scott Marsh
(Highland, NY) also ran a career best 8.544 ET in the
second round on the Scooterboy / Big-E Racing sled.

Season finale update
The last points race of the season will take place at New England Dragway in Epping, NH
on September 13, 2008.  NED is an awesome facility with great traction and we are very
lucky that they were able to accommodate the NSA sleds on such short notice.
This will be a day race and a year end BBQ will follow the event.

Marsh, who qualified #2 during
the event, faced the quickest

Merrill (Chuckaroo Motorsports)
in the final round.  Marsh won on
a hole shot beating Merrill’s
quicker but losing 8.490 ET.

Marsh met Kevin Zucco (Zucco
Racing) in the semifinal round.
Zucco’s sled was going rounds
after defeating Kristin Stanley
(PCS Performance) in the first round and Ed Armstrong (A2Z Racing) in the 2nd round.

Congratulations to Chuckaroo Motorsports and rider Travis Merrill on their phenomenal
8.396 ET during the first round of qualifying.  This team set the low ET and fastest mph
(153.35) of the event .  The team  took home a 136” Camoplast asphalt track for
qualifying #1.

For the Big E / Scooterboy Racing team, the win coupled with their excellent #2 qualifying
spot allowed them to jump from sixth to fifth in the NSA points standings.  Kevin Zucco
(Zucco Racing) made a huge jump from fourteenth to eleventh with his 3rd place
qualifying spot and 2nd round win.   Travis Merrill also moved up three spots in the points
standings with his runner up finish and number one qualifying spot.

played host to some of the fastest
Pro Stock 1000cc asphalt sleds in
the country on Saturday August
16th for the running of the 4th
Annual NSA Pro Stock Asphalt
Sled Challenge presented by
Dalton Industries.  Ken Lund
(Wise Man Racing) of Brunswick,
Maine took home his first ever
NSA event win and the Wahl Bros
Racing Points Series
Championship with his final round
win.  Lund faced the number one
qualifier, Travis Merrill on the
Chuckaroo Motorsports Ski-doo
in a high-pressure final round.  The Wahl Challenge Championship came down to the final
round and to add to the excitement, both Lund and Merrill were the teams fighting for the
Wahl trophy.  Both sleds ran nearly identical 8.46 ET’s, but unfortunately Merrill went red,
giving the event win and first ever Wahl Championship to Lund.

Lund, together with teammate and sled owner Andy Emmertz,  took the first round over Ed
Armstrong (Holyoke, MA) on the A2Z Racing Yamaha, and then got around Scott Marsh of
Highland, NY on the Big-E / Scooterboy Racing Pro Stock as he suffered from a broken belt.
Meanwhile Merrill had advanced into the second round from a bye and beat Jeff Cullen of
Gray, Maine on the Abbott Racing Polaris IQ in the second round, and Jay Pearl of Newport,
Maine on the Bangor Motorsports Arctic Cat in third round action.

With his Budds Creek victory, Lund increased his lead in the 2008 NSA Championship Points
series.  Lund continues to lead the series with 451 points, with Jay Pearl (Bangor
Motorsports) in second with 402 points, and Jeff Cullen (Abbott Racing) in third with 384
points.  Scott Marsh (Big-E / Scooterboy Racing) and Travis Merrill (Chuckaroo Motorsports)
are currently tied for fourth followed closely by Ed Armstrong (A2Z Racing) in sixth and
Kristin Stanley (PCS Performance) in seventh.

It can never be said that the NSA Pro Stock sled series is predictable.  We have had five
Ken Lund wins all in Maryland
different event winners in as many events.   After the
running of the Fourth Annual NSA Pro Stock Asphalt
Sled Challenge presented by Dalton Industries at
MIR, Ken Lund joined a very elite group of racers
with his victory.

Stanley gets first win and sets new PS1000 National record

Kristin Stanley (PCS Performance) had a very successful day of racing at the NSA Pro Stock
Asphalt Sled Championship points finale in Epping, NH.  Stanley started the day as the
number one qualifier with a phenomenal 8.294 ET during the second round of qualifying and
followed this up with an even lower 8.273 ET in the first round of eliminations.  Stanley met
up with Jeff Cullen (Abbott’s
Power Equipment) in the final
round as he won rounds against
several tough competitors
throughout the day.

Stanley redefined fast on the
PCS Pro Stock by lowering both
ends of the Pro Stock 1000cc
National record in the final
round of eliminations –
8.239 at
156.21mph.

Ken Lund (Wise Man Racing)
clinched the 2008 NSA Points
Championship during the first round of racing on Saturday with his win over Scott Marsh
(Big-E / Scooterboy Racing) in a very close race.  Marsh left on Lund with a .090 reaction
time but Lund would get the edge over Marsh with his quicker ET.

In other first round racing action, Dan Meyer (Meyer Racing) was paired up against newcomer
John Evans (B&F Racing) in what would be another close race.  Both riders had nearly
identical reaction times but Meyer would take the round win with a career best 8.548 ET.

Congratulations to Kevin Zucco (Zucco Racing) and Travis Merrill (Chuckaroo Motorsports)
on their semi-final spots.  Both riders have had an excellent race season.

To put a period on a story about a great day of racing, NSA must recognize the legendary
Rich Daly, who made a 157.69 mph pass on his Dynoport Pro Stock during the first round of
qualifying.  His subsequent passes were just shy of backing this up as a new National mph
record, but his sled was definitely making huge horsepower to put up such a solid number.
What an amazing way to end a tremendous asphalt racing season!

News
After an exciting season of new event winners
and new National Records, the 2008 National
Speed Association Pro Stock Asphalt sled
Champion is Ken Lund from Brunswick, Maine.
Lund and the Wise Man Racing Team of Andy
Emmertz and Andy Palmer had an excellent
season of racing.  They took their Polaris Edge
1000cc Pro Stock to the final during the 2008
Camoplast Asphalt Challenge and got their first
win at the Dalton Industries sponsored race in
Maryland.  Consistency was the key for the
team from Maine as they qualified in the top
half of the field at all six races and went to the
semi-final round in both Maple Grove, PA and
the Millennium Technologies sponsored race
at New England Dragway.

As the 2008 NSA Points Champion, Lund will
be wearing a new custom leather racing suit
next season from Vanson Leathers©.
Congratulations to the entire Wise Man Racing
Team on a well-deserved Championship win.

The last race of the season created some
major changes to the 2008 Championship
points.  Kristin Stanley (PCS Performance)

Andy Emmertz (standing) & Ken Lund (seated)
moved from seventh to third with the event win and Jeff Cullen (Abbott’s Power Equipment)
moved from third to second with his runner up finish.

There has been a different winner at each event this season which says a lot about the
competitiveness of the teams that race in the NSA series.  Each NSA race team is
passionate about racing snowmobiles which provides the series with additional stability
going into the future.  Since its inception in 2005, the NSA series has had many different
winners and you just never know who is going to go home with the win until the final round
is finished.

Congratulations to all of the racers on another successful season of asphalt racing.
